چکیده

Methods Twenty-five hypertensive male patients aged between 47 and 67 years (mean 54.6) attending the long term anticoagulant and hypertensive clinic at the County and Clayton Hospital in Wakefield were included in the trial. One patient withdrew because of side-effects. Eleven patients (Group 1) suffered from angina of effort, with or without myocardial infarction and were receiving glyceryl trinitrate tablets for attacks of angina. None of these patients had received any anti-hypertensive therapy previously. Three of them (Nos. 1, 5 and 6) had suffered from ventricular tachycardia following myocardial infarction and were taking maintenance doses of quinidine sulphate, 200 mg 8 hourly, to prevent arrhythmia.

Formulation and Evaluation of Propranolol Hydrochloride-Loaded Carbopol-934P/Ethyl Cellulose Mucoadhesive Microspheres

The purpose of this research was to formulate and systemically evaluate in-vitro and in-vivo performances of mucoadhesive propranolol hydrochloride microspheres for its potential use in the treatment of hypertension, myocardial infraction and cardiac arrhythmias. Propranolol hydrochloride mucoadhesive microspheres, containing carbopol-934P as mucoadhesive polymer and ethyl cellulose as carrier ...

Treatment of large cutaneous facial hemangioma with propranolol in a child with biliary atresia and esophageal varices

Introduction:  Biliary atresia (BA) is the most common cause of neonatal jaundice, for which surgery is indicated. It may lead to portal hypertension and esophageal varices. Sometimes, BA is related to other congenital anomalies and malformation, while a coexistence of BA with facial hemangioma has not been reported, yet. Infantile hemangioma is a childhood benign vascular tumor. Beta bloc...

Effect of Propranolol on Angiogenic Factors in Human Hematopoietic Cell Lines in vitro

Background: Beta-adrenergic blocking agents have been broadly used for treatment of many cardiovascular diseases such as arterial hypertension and ischemic heart failure. Anti-tumoral, anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenesis effects of propranolol (a non-selective beta-adrenergic blocker) have been shown. Angiogenesis (replenish of the pre-existing vascular networks) plays a critical role in s...

Propranolol increases prostacyclin synthesis in patients with essential hypertension.

We tested the hypothesis that vascular prostacyclin synthesis is increased by propranolol and could account for some of the drug's antihypertensive effect. We studied 10 white patients with mild essential hypertension in a randomized, double-blind design to assess the effects of indomethacin with or without the addition of propranolol on blood pressure and vascular prostacyclin biosynthesis, as...

Effect of propranolol on blood pressure and renin in renal hypertension in the rat.

1. Propranolol was administered to groups of mature rats before and during the development of renal hypertension induced by ligation of the aorta between the renal arteries. 2. At a dose 10 mumol (3 mg) of propranolol/kg, administered by intraperitoneal injection, the onset and severity of hypertension were not affected, although plasma renin concentration was significantly lower than in the un...
